How to Make Easy Fabric Wrapped Wooden Spoons
I want to give heartfelt handmade gifts this year and these fabric-wrapped wooden spoons are the perfect addition to the best hostess gifts!
This may seem impractical but hear me out! I would love these wooden spoons as a gift with an adorable tea towel and all the homemade mixes that I put in my gift baskets, and with the dishwasher safe mod podge, I think they will be well received by my friends!
If you would like to see everything I put in my hostess gift baskets you can look here!
Although I will probably hand wash my spoons because I don’t like to put my wooden spoons in the dishwasher anyway.
Do you put your wooden utensils in the dishwasher?
Supplies
- Fabric of choice. I wanted a small print or plaid so it would be interesting but a large pattern would get lost.
- Matte Modpodge
- Dishwasher Safe Modpodge
- Wooden Spoons

How to Make Fabric Wrapped Wooden Spoons
- Measure Fabric
Measure your fabric to wrap around your spoon handle one time with a small overlap.
- Cut Fabric
Measure twice, cut once, or twice LOL
I am generally a wing it kind of girl but I pretend to measure here. - Modpodge layer #1
Place your fabric right side up on wax paper and spread the matte finish mod podge on the front of your fabric. Be mindful that you don’t get strings get stuck on the fabric as it may come off when fraying. Let dry.
- Trim Fabric
Fold the fabric in half and trim your edges to be nice and neat so that no fraying will happen.
- Modpodge layer #2
Begin to use your matte finish mod podge to adhere the fabric to the spoon handle front and back. Make sure your mod podge covers the entire area where fabric will go.
- Use a generous amount of mod podge to cover the fabric on the outside of the fabric full coverage.
- Repeat Modpodge
After the step above is dry coat the fabric 2 more times with the matte finish mod podge and let dry in between coats. Lightly sand if necessary.
- Final Step
Add the dishwasher-safe mod podge over the top and remember to handwash.
- DIY Drying rack
I used one of my paint erasers to create a lifted place to set my handle ends on as they dried so that they weren’t flat on the wax paper as they dried.
- Tie up with a pretty Christmas bow and add them to your Gift Baskets!
How fun is this wooden spoon project? These will go perfectly tied up with a bow and in a basket with my Homemade vanilla extract!
If I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t have chosen plain green. I think a small pattern is definitely best for this project. I also observed that the fabric did get darker but they look adorable and the mod podge is hard as a rock. I don’t foresee any issues with it coming off.
