What Colors To Pair With Black Cabinets Vol. 1
What paint colors go best with black kitchen cabinets? That is a loaded question and there are LOTS of answers, so I am going to break it down into Volumes.
This is the Black Cabinet Color Pairing Guide Volume 1, The Classic, Timeless, Vintage Style edition!
If you are dreaming about a classic and timeless kitchen, keep reading and hear me out on one of my unexpected color choices.
This color pairing guide is meant for inspiration, and to help you think outside of the box.
I want you to love your home and doing what everybody else does isn’t going to get you there.
Let’s talk about the black cabinets first. Whether you’re buying new cabinets or painting your existing cabinets black, I encourage you to keep as much of the woodgrain as apparent as possible.
Black is one of the hardest colors to paint on cabinets, and the texture of the wood grain will help to hide imperfections.
The Blackest Black paints are…
Every brand has a blackest black but these are the two I use
- Tricorn Black from Sherwin Williams
- Onyx Black from Benjamin Moore
But what colors to pair with your beautiful black cabinets?
Here are a few of my favorites.
All Sherwin Williams in order of appearance.
Natural Linen
Woven Wicker
Verdant
I would put natural linen from the Crown molding all the way to the base molding and drench the room in this color including the ceiling.
You can use the woven wicker paint color as inspiration to bring in accessories, like baskets. Or paint and glaze some furniture.
I know the verdant green might have surprised you, but I highly encourage you to paint a side table or a dresser or cabinet hutch in your kitchen in this color! It would be like bringing the outside in and it would complement the black cabinets amazingly! Trust me!
Now let’s talk about the details.
You can elevate the style of your kitchen with warm, golden tones like brass hardware and give it a modern touch with some lucite details to catch the light.
Warm wood tones (my favorite) Use these in your furniture like dining room tables and cutting boards.
Add in some vintage landscape, art and simple floral arrangements in a glass vase. Mine is from Jennifer Lanne Studios. I love her work!
Don’t forget candles in thrifted brass candlesticks!
Bring in some texture with your rugs and throw blankets over your chairs for that cozy feeling.
You can carry this color palette throughout your entire home to ensure a cohesive look that plays well with both modern and vintage elements, allowing your personal style to shine through.
Happy Painting!
