How to Turn a Plastic Flower Pot into a Trash Can
Okay, can I just rant for a second about how expensive nice-looking trash cans are? Like, why does something that holds garbage need to cost a small fortune? I had this basic black plastic one in my kitchen for ages, and it was fine… but it definitely wasn’t cute. You know how it is—it gets the job done, but it doesn’t exactly spark joy.
My “Aha!” Moment in the Clearance Aisle

Well, I finally decided to do something about it, and let me tell you—this might be one of my favorite quick and easy upgrades EVER.
I was strolling through Hobby Lobby’s spring clearance section (dangerous, I know) and found this tall, fluted plastic planter for 75% off. Originally $45, I snagged it for just over $11! I knew instantly it was the perfect shape and size to become my new “fancy” kitchen trash can. At least until I get my pullout trash can installed.

Choosing the Perfect “Terra Cotta” Paint
I couldn’t decide which spray paint color to choose at first, but when I had the idea to make it look like a classic terra cotta pot, the choice became easy! I grabbed a can of RustOleum in “Warm Caramel”—it has the perfect warm, earthy tone for the job.
The Magic of a Quick Spray Paint Makeover
The transformation was almost too simple. A few light coats of paint were all it took to completely change its look. I am not even kidding—this thing looks so expensive and high-end now. The fluted design does most of the work, and the matte “Warm Caramel” finish totally sells the rustic pottery vibe.

The Reveal: From Eyesore to Showstopper
I swapped out my sad old black bin for this beauty, and the difference is really noticeable. It looks like I went out and bought some designer trash can, but nope—it’s just a plastic planter and a little bit of spray paint magic. If you’ve got an eyesore bin you’ve been tolerating, seriously… give this a try. It’s almost too pretty to hide trash in!
