DIY Garden Chandelier: Turn a Vintage Chandelier into a Stunning Planter & Bird Feeder
Are you looking for a unique way to elevate your garden decor? This DIY garden chandelier project combines vintage charm with functional gardening by transforming an old chandelier into a stunning planter and bird feeder.
Using simple materials like recycled glass jars and a bit of creativity, you can create a one-of-a-kind piece that will be the centerpiece of your outdoor space. Perfect for plant lovers and bird enthusiasts alike, this project is easy, affordable, and eco-friendly.
I have to apologize for the bland picture, but we have had snow and rain and today was the first nice day to take a picture but my backdrop, I’m afraid is rather drab. I will add birdseed and water and a little succulent when the rain stops!
My friends have shared more garden upcycled projects that I have shared at the bottom of this post for you to check out as well!

Why This Garden Chandelier Project Works
- Eco-Friendly: Upcycling a vintage chandelier and terra cotta pots reduces waste and gives new life to old items.
- Versatile: Use it as a planter, bird feeder, or both!
- Aesthetic Appeal: Adds a touch of elegance and whimsy to your garden.
- Budget-Friendly: Repurposing items you already have or can find at thrift stores keeps costs low.

Materials Needed
- Vintage chandelier (thrifted or repurposed)
- Glass cups and jars (various sizes)
- Strong adhesive or epoxy
- Chain or rope for hanging if there isn’t one attached already
- Potting soil and plants (succulents, herbs, or flowers work great)
- Birdseed and water
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prep Your Chandelier
- Clean the vintage chandelier thoroughly to remove dust and rust.
- Remove any electrical components if they’re still attached.

2. Attach the Jars to the Chandelier
- Use a strong adhesive or epoxy to secure the glasses and jars to the chandelier arms.
- Ensure the pots are firmly attached and allow the adhesive to dry.

3. Add Plants and Soil
- Fill the pots with potting soil and plant your chosen greenery. Succulents, herbs, or trailing plants work beautifully for this project.
4. Add the Bird Seed
- Fill one of the shallow dishes with water for a sweet little bird bath.
- Fill a dish or two with birdseed to attract all the feathered friends to your garden.
5. Hang Your Garden Chandelier
- Use a sturdy chain or rope to hang your chandelier in a shaded or semi-shaded area of your garden.
- Ensure it’s securely hung to support the weight of the pots, plants, and bird feeder.

Tips for Success
- Choose lightweight plants to avoid overloading the chandelier.
- If your chandelier is heavy, reinforce the hanging mechanism with additional support.
- Regularly refill the bird feeder and water your plants to keep your garden chandelier thriving.
