How to Set The Mood of Your Home to Calm
In today’s post, we will talk about setting the mood of your home to calm. From cluttered to clarity in a few simple steps.
Have you ever walked into your home after a long day and felt instantly stressed?
Maybe the lighting was too harsh (my husband calls our can lights the “stadium lights”), the decor was inherited or not what you truly love, or there was clutter everywhere.
Whatever the reason, your home environment can have a big impact on your mental health.
That’s why it’s so important to set the mood in your home to promote relaxation, happiness, and creativity.
As someone who used to come home feeling drained and uninspired, I know firsthand how transformative it can be to change the atmosphere in your home. By making small changes like adding some cozy lighting, playing uplifting music, and incorporating some inspiring decor, I’ve turned my home into a sanctuary that lifts my mood and frees up my creativity.
The relationship between your home environment and your mood is a two-way street.
A cluttered, disorganized space can make you feel anxious and overwhelmed, while a well-designed, comfortable space can make you feel calm and relaxed. And when you’re in a positive state of mind, you’re more likely to feel creative, inspired, and motivated to pursue your passions.
So, how can you set the mood in your home to promote calm, happiness, and creativity?
Here are some tips to Set The Mood In Your Home
Incorporate soft lighting
- Instead of harsh overhead lighting, opt for soft lamps or candles to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
Play uplifting music
- Choose music that makes you feel happy and energized. You might even create a playlist specifically for your home that you can play whenever you need a mood boost.
Declutter your space
- Get rid of anything that doesn’t bring you joy or serve a purpose. A clean, organized space can greatly affect your mental state. OOf! This one gets me feeling a little uneasy. Don’t read this and think that my home is uncluttered all the time and perfectly kept. No that was my mom’s house, definitely not mine, but I do declutter often and feel SO MUCH BETTER when I do it! So if you know the secret to keeping it that way please tell me!
Add Flowers
- Not only do flowers add a natural element to your decor, but they also have been shown to reduce stress and boost mood, and they are just so dang uplifting! A beautiful $9 bunch of flowers from the store can add so much joy to a room or a dinner party!
Personalize your space
- Incorporate decor and mementos that remind you of happy memories or inspire you to pursue your passions. Make your home a reflection of your personality and interests.
- Like these cookbooks, that Better Homes cookbook was my mom’s and I cherish it. Then I searched high and low for the Julia Childs French Cooking Cookbook and finally found it in the deep dark corner of an obscure Texas flea market for $10 ( I ran to the counter to pay!), and the Williams Sonoma Weeknight Cook cookbook is my absolute most used cookbook!
By implementing these tips and making small changes to your home environment, you can create a space that supports your mental and emotional well-being. And when you’re feeling happy and creative, you’re free to laugh, have fun, and pursue your dreams with passion and enthusiasm.
Setting the mood in your home is about more than just aesthetics. It’s about creating an environment that supports your mental health and inspires you to be your best self.
So, take some time to think about how you can make your home a more inviting and comfortable space. You might be surprised at how big of a difference it can make in your life.

You are the sweetest my friend!
Amy, this is such a great post. There is something about a clutter free home. However, I find it hard to keep it that way with what we do…. Ugh.. I need a fairy behind me to pick up my messes. The shed is a disaster at the moment and I need to get out there and do a serious clean. Thanks for the inspiration Amy.
Wendy, you amaze me at how beautiful your home is! It’s my goal in life to be more like you! I am currently staring at a pile of project supplies that I haven’t started yet! LOL
This post is great Amy! Inspiring people to enjoy their home is such a great thing.
