How to Make a DIY Funky Mushroom Lamp
In this blog post, we’re gonna take you on a journey to create your very own funky mushroom lamp DIY. We’ll spill the beans on what materials you’ll need, and walk you through the step-by-step instructions.
Mushroom lamps have been all the rage lately, and it’s no wonder why. They bring a touch of whimsy, a soft glow, and an instant cozy vibe to any room. But why settle for store-bought when you can roll up your sleeves and make your own funky mushroom lamp?
This is a funny story about how Facebook Marketplace can make you some good friends! When I saw these lamps and I sent the infamous “are these available” message, the reply was “oh Hi Amy, yes I will be home tomorrow do you remember where I live?” LOL
Clearly, I am on FBMP a little too much, and clearly I make friends easily with the people who sell stuff. I have found that I regularly send these messages to the same sellers. I always say we were meant to be friends.
So I have bought things from this kind lady before and she also had two chairs that I liked so I picked up them and the lamps at the same time. We chatted about how to fix up her cottage-style side garden and she showed me her plans for her new bathroom remodel.
She doubted my ability to get these two chairs and two lamps into my Honda Accord, but we had a good laugh when I finally got the door shut! I did it! ”
So, make friends and enjoy marketplace, but be safe.
Having said all that, I am not a mushroom lover for food or decor, but I found these lamps for $10 and they were the perfect shape. Now I love them and I think they add so much charm. I will be moving them to my new office as soon as it’s done and I have shocked myself at how adorable they are!
Disclaimer:
Sometimes I buy things off of Facebook Marketplace or in the thrift store with no plan but I know they have potential and they are inexpensive!

They started out silver and they were the perfect mushroom shape, but they needed to be much more whimsical so with a little paint and some imagination these little lamps had a facelift!
This base got a coat of rosegold metallic Rustoleum.
To give it a mushroom stem look I used a light coat of a verdigris green just enough to look organic and not a full coverage.
The idea I had first was for a pink mushroom but after spraying the shade with the blush color (which I love) it just wasn’t very mushroom-y so I went over it with the claret wine from Rustoleum.
The finish started to immediately craze and crackle and it was the happiest accident EVER because it looked so cool and so perfect for a mushroom!!!! I was so excited!

Do You Want To Go Toxic Free?
Are you tired of using harsh chemicals to clean your home? Do you want to switch to natural cleaning products that are better for your health and the environment? If so, you’re in luck!
You can’t buy that kind of crazing!
If I had to guess it was just the mix of the two paints on a metal surface in the sun. I think the pink was sprayed while the metal was just brought outside from the air conditioning and the claret wine was sprayed about an hour later after it had sat in the sun and warmed up.
That is my educated guess.
Here it is before I added the green to the base and the dots. It needed something more!
Next, I used a round sponge dobber and the Bungalow 47 Furniture paint in the shade farmhouse sink to make my dots.
I did try to get them as uniform and full coverage as possible without making them perfect.
Aren’t they so adorable? I love how whimsical they are and how they look with my favorite flower pots!
